As a high school student, I noticed that we often wear different types of sneakers. Yet, I also want to share tips on how to take good care of these sneakers with fellow enthusiasts.
Cleaning, Encourage the habit of cleaning sneakers regularly. Remove any dirt or mud using a soft brush or cloth. For tougher stains, use a mild soap mixed with water and gently scrub. Once in a while, do a deep clean. Remove the laces and wash them separately. Use a soft brush or toothbrush to clean the surface of the sneakers. For canvas or fabric sneakers, a mixture of baking soda and vinegar can be effective. For leather sneakers, use a cleaner designed for leather.
Drying, Never put sneakers in a dryer. Always air dry them. Stuff the insides with newspaper to absorb moisture and maintain the shape. Avoid direct sunlight as it can fade the color.
Odor Control: To keep sneakers smelling fresh, use baking soda. Sprinkle it inside the sneakers and leave it overnight. In the morning, just tap out the baking soda.
Rotation: If possible, rotate between multiple pairs of sneakers. This gives each pair a chance to air out and reduces wear and tear.
Repair Minor Damages: Address small issues like loose threads or minor sole separations before they turn into major problems.
The average lifespan of a pair of sneakers can vary widely based on several factors including the quality of the sneakers, how often they are worn, the type of activities they are used for, and how well they are cared for. Generally, with proper care and maintenance, a good quality pair of sneakers can last anywhere from six months to several years.
